Shinder's to Shinder's

Shinder's to Shinder's, the documentary, aired on MTN, Minneapolis Cable Television in January 2003.

Shinder's to Shinder's was shot on location ~ Hennepin Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets ~ in the summer of 1982. It is a portrait of Minneapolis' honkeytonk twenty years ago. Like New York, our Minne Times Square has since been eliminated, and we are much poorer for what we got in its place.

Shinder's to Shinder's was a collaboration between poet Roy McBride, who was responsible for the sound images, Choreographer Patrick Scully, who was responsible for the visual images, and film maker Dan Polsfuss, who was responsible for putting it all together into a movie.

This film had its world premiere on the billboard which used to sit diagonally above Shinder's on 7th, facing the intersection for traffic coming down Hennepin or 7th. It features dancers Susan Delattre, Wendy Morris, Arlford, Jeff Sandeen, Roben Hill and Jay Smiley.

This documentary was shot by James Byrne, and documents the crowd, the scene that was created at the screening of the film. It also includes footage of the film. Relive Hennepin Avenue as the honky tonk bohemian center it was before the city paid millions to have it torn down and replaced by the current travesty.

"It's the mainline,
it's the drag strip,
it's the edge
down on Hennepin
down on Hennepin"

Roy McBride
