Free Agent

I have learned over the years that institutional affiliation has two major costs. The first is freedom of action. The second is resources.

When you work for an organization you always have to watch out for the institution's filters. Sometimes you have to choose between telling the truth and having a job. This is not a good place to be as an artist or as an activist.

I estimate that it costs four to eight times as much to accomplish the same amount of work when you make the change from doing things independently, to doing them as a non-profit organization. It’s not the employees of the non-profits; they work hard. The systems leave no choice.

So how am I going to survive?
